Once upon a time two brothers set out on a leisurely wagon ride through the pecan orchard overlooking a beautiful field of cotton.
It was such a lovely day that the brothers were paying more attention to the scenery than to where they were and they suddenly realized that they were lost. Burtch was the older of the two by a whole 15 months and he didn’t want his little brother, Lawson to be frightened.
“Just keep pushing us along with your stick, Lawson. We’ll find our way back home pretty soon,” said Burtch.
But just as Burtch said that the stick slipped from Lawson’s hands.
“I’m sorry, Bubba,” said Lawson. “How will we get back home now?
“It’s ok, Lawson. Everybody makes mistakes. But if we work together we can figure out how to make it back home before lunch.” Their mama is such a good cook that the boys don’t want to miss one of her home cooked meals.
So, the two brothers stand up to look for help.
They looked all around but saw no one.
“I’ll just get out of the wagon and get the stick,” said Lawson.
“No, Lawson! You can’t get out of the wagon! It’s too dangerous. I hear there are wild Lulus in these parts.”
“Lawson, I’m sorry I had to pull you back to safety by your forehead. You’ll thank me one day,” said Burtch.
Lawson was pretty sure he wasn’t going to be thanking his bubba anytime soon. But he did have another idea. “Let’s just start hollering for help, Bubba.”
“Great idea, Lawson!”
“Heeelllppp! Heellpp! Heeeellllpppp!”
“Oh no, Bubba! I think I see a wild Lulu!”
“I see it Lawson! It’s coming towards us! Aaaaahhhhh!”
“I come in peace!” said the wild Lulu. ” Your mama sent me to find you. She fixed you a healthy and yummy lunch and it’s time to eat.”
When they returned home the brothers asked their mama if they could keep the wild Lulu. She said yes and they lived happily ever after.
